POLICE

The Riot (Damages) (Amendment) Regulations 1986

Coming into Operation

1st April 1986

In exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 3(2) of the Riot (Damages) Act 1886, I hereby make the following Regulations:—

1.  These Regulations may be cited as the Riot (Damages) (Amendment) Regulations 1986 and shall come into operation on 1st April 1986.

2.  In these Regulations “the principal Regulations” means the Regulations dated 1st October 1921 made by the Secretary of State under section 3(2) of the Riot (Damages) Act 1886 as to claims for compensation(1).

3.  In Regulation 1 of the principal Regulations, there shall be substituted for the entries following that relating to the Metropolitan Police District, the following entries:—

   

A police area consisting of a non-metropolitan countyTo the clerk to the County Council
Any other police areaTo the clerk to the police authority.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

These Regulations amend the 1921 Regulations prescribing the procedure for claiming compensation under the Riot (Damages) Act 1886.

Regulation 3 removes obsolete references and provides for claims arising in combined police areas, and in the areas of the new police authorities established under Part IV of the Local Government Act 1985 (c.51) for the metropolitan counties and the Northumbria police area, to be made to the clerk to the police authority.
