In exercise of the powers conferred upon me by section 23(2) of the Video Recordings Act 1984, I hereby make the following Order:—
1.—(1) This Order may be cited as the Video Recordings Act 1984 (Commencement No. 1) Order 1985.
(2) This Order does not extend to Scotland.
2. Sections 1, 4, 5, 7, 8, 22 and 23 of the Video Recordings Act 1984 shall come into operation on 10th June 1985.

This Order provides that certain sections of the Video Recordings Act 1984 shall come into force in England, Wales and Northern Ireland on 10th June 1985. The sections are sections 1, 4, 5, 7, 8, 22 and 23. The same sections are brought into force in Scotland on the same date by the Video Recordings Act 1984 (Scotland) (Commencement No. 1) Order 1985.
Sections 1 and 22 set out the meaning of certain terms used in the Act and section 7 defines “classification certificate”.
Section 4 provides for the designation by the Secretary of State of an authority responsible for determining the suitability of video works for classification. Section 5 lays down the Parliamentary procedure for designation. Section 8 empowers the Secretary of State to make regulations as to the labelling of video recordings and of their spools and cases. Section 23 deals with the short title, commencement and extent of the Act.
