Whereas a draft of this Order has been laid before Parliament on the recommendation of the Advisory Council on the Misuse of Drugs and has been approved by a resolution of each House of Parliament:

Now, therefore, Her Majesty, in pursuance of section 2(2) of the Misuse of Drugs Act 1971, is pleased, by and with the advice of Her Privy Council, to order, and it is hereby ordered, as follows:—

1.  This Order may be cited as the Misuse of Drugs Act 1971 (Modification) Order 1983 and shall come into operation on the expiration of the period of two months beginning with the day on which it is made.

2.  Schedule 2 to the Misuse of Drugs Act 1971 (which, as amended(1), specifies the drugs which are subject to control under that Act) shall be amended as follows:—

(a)in paragraph 1(a) of Part I of that Schedule, after the word “Racemorphan” there shall be inserted the word “Sufentanil” and after the word “Thebaine” there shall be inserted the word “Tilidate”; and

(b)in paragraph 1 of Part III of that Schedule, after the word “Chlorphentermine” there shall be inserted the word “Dextropropoxyphene”.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

This Order amends Schedule 2 to the Misuse of Drugs Act 1971, which specifies the drugs which are subject to control under the Act. The Order adds Sufentanil and Tilidate to Part I of that Schedule (which specifies Class A drugs), and adds Dextropropoxyphene to Part III (which specifies Class C drugs).
