1.  This Order may be cited as the Hovercraft (Application of Enactments) (Amendment) Order 1978 and shall come into operation on 29th December 1978.

2.  The Interpretation Act 1889 shall apply for the interpretation of this Order as it applies for the interpretation of an Act of Parliament.

3.  At the end of the entry relating to the Collision Regulations and Distress Signals Order 1977 in column 1 of Part B of Schedule 1 to the Hovercraft (Application of Enactments) Order 1972, as amended by the Hovercraft (Application of Enactments) (Amendment) Order 1977, there shall be added the words “(as amended by S.I. 1977/1301 and S.I. 1978/462)”.

4.  For the entry relating to the Merchant Shipping (Dangerous Goods) Rules 1965 as amended in columns 1, 2 and 3 of Part B of Schedule 1 to the Hovercraft (Application of Enactments) Order 1972, there shall be substituted the following:—

EXPLANATORY NOTE

This Order amends the Hovercraft (Application of Enactments) Order 1972, as amended by the Hovercraft (Application of Enactments) (Amendment) Order 1977, by adding to the reference in Schedule 1 thereto to the Collision Regulations and Distress Signals Order 1977 a reference to the amendments to that Order. The Order also amends the 1972 Order by substituting for references in Schedule 1 thereto to the Merchant Shipping (Dangerous Goods) Rules 1965 (S.I. 1965/1067) as amended references to the Merchant Shipping (Dangerous Goods) Rules 1978, and thus applies the 1978 Rules to United Kingdom registered hovercraft and to all other hovercraft within United Kingdom territorial waters.
