The Sugar Act 1956 (Repeals) (Appointed Day) (No. 4) Order 1976

The Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food and the Secretary of State acting jointly in exercise of the powers conferred upon them by Section 4 of, and Part II of Schedule 3 to, the European Communities Act 1972, and of all other powers enabling them in that behalf, hereby make the following order:—

1.—(1) This order may be cited as the Sugar Act 1956 (Repeals) (Appointed Day) (No. 4) Order 1976, and shall come into operation on 5th May 1976.

(2) The Interpretation Act 1889 shall apply to the interpretation of this order as it applies to the interpretation of an Act of Parliament.

2.  The repeal of the enactments mentioned in the Schedule to this Order shall take effect, to the extent specified in column 3 of the Schedule, on 5th May 1976.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

This Order, made under section 4 of, and Part II of Schedule 3 to, the European Communities Act 1972, appoints a day for the repeal of specified provisions of the Sugar Act 1956 which will no longer be required following adoption by the United Kingdom of the Common Agricultural Policy of the European Community. The provisions repealed include the power of Ministers to enter into agreements for the making of incentive payments to the British Sugar Corporation and those concerning financial relations between the Corporation and the Sugar Board.
