SEX DISCRIMINATION

The Sex Discrimination Act 1975 (Commencement) (Amendment) Order 1975

In exercise of the powers conferred on me by sections 81(5) and 83(5) of the Sex Discrimination Act 1975, I hereby make the following Order:—

1.  This Order may be cited as the Sex Discrimination Act 1975 (Commencement) (Amendment) Order 1975.

2.  In this Order any reference to the principal Order is a reference to the Sex Discrimination Act 1975 (Commencement) Order 1975(1).

3.  In Article 3 of the principal Order for the words “Articles 4(2) and 5” there shall be substituted the words “Articles 4(2), 5 and 5A”.

4.  After Article 5 of the principal Order there shall be inserted the following Article:—

5A.  So far as section 38 of the Act (discriminatory advertisements) relates to the publication of printed advertisements, it shall not be unlawful under that section to publish or cause to be published before 1st April 1976 such an advertisement if it was printed for publication or made up for such printing before 15th December 1975.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

This Order amends the Sex Discrimination Act 1975 (Commencement) Order 1975 which brings into operation on 29th December 1975 the provisions relating to discriminatory advertisements. Transitional provision is made in relation to advertisements printed or ready for printing before 15th December 1975; it is not to be unlawful under the section to publish or cause to be published such advertisements if they are published before 1st April 1976.
