Present,

The Queen's Most Excellent Majesty in Council

Whereas by section 735 of the Merchant Shipping Act 1894 it is provided that the legislature of any British possession may by an Act or Ordinance confirmed by Her Majesty in Council repeal, wholly or in part, any provisions of that Act (other than those of the Third Part thereof which relate to emigrant ships) relating to ships registered in that possession:

And whereas the Legislature of Bermuda has passed the Merchant Shipping Act 1973 repealing certain provisions of the Merchant Shipping Acts 1894 and 1906 so far as they relate to ships registered in Bermuda:

Now, therefore, Her Majesty, in pursuance of the powers conferred on Her by the said section 735 and all other powers enabling Her in that behalf, is pleased, by and with the advice of Her Privy Council, to order, and it is hereby ordered, as follows:—

1.  This Order may be cited as the Merchant Shipping (Confirmation of Legislation) (Bermuda) Order 1973 and shall come into operation on 23rd August 1973.

2.  The said Merchant Shipping Act 1973 is hereby confirmed.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

This Order confirms an Act of the Legislature of Bermuda which repeals certain provisions of the Merchant Shipping Acts 1894 and 1906 so far as they relate to British ships registered in Bermuda and have now been replaced by the provisions of the Merchant Shipping (Safety Convention) (Bermuda) Order 1973 (S.I. 1973/1315) and the Merchant Shipping (Safety Convention) (Bermuda) (No. 2) Order 1973 (S.I. 1973/1316).
