This is the original version (as it was originally enacted).
17Whosoever shall unlawfully and maliciously prevent or impede any Person, being on board of or having quitted any Ship or Vessel which shall be in Distress, or wrecked, stranded, or cast on shore, in his Endeavour to save his Life, or shall unlawfully and maliciously prevent or impede any Person in his Endeavour to save the Life of any such Person as in this Section first aforesaid, shall be guilty of Felony, and being convicted thereof shall be liable, at the Discretion of the Court, to be kept in Penal Servitude for Life or for any Term not less than Three Years,—or to be imprisoned for any Term not exceeding Two Years, with or without Hard Labour, and with or without Solitary Confinement.
