Anglo-Venezuelan Treaty (Island of Patos) Act 1942

SCHEDULETREATY WITH THE UNITED STATES OF VENEZUELA RELATING TO ISLAND OF PATOS

His Majesty The King of Great Britain, Ireland and the British Dominions beyond the Seas, Emperor of India, and The President of the United States of Venezuela,

Desiring to regulate in a spirit of goodwill certain questions concerning the status of the Island of Patos,

Have decided to conclude a Treaty for that purpose and, to that end, have named as their Plenipotentiaries

HIS MAJESTY THE KING OF GREAT BRITAIN, IRELAND AND. THE BRITISH DOMINIONS.BEYOND THE SEAS, EMPEROR OF INDIA (hereinafter referred to as His Majesty The King) for the United Kingdoqi of Great Britain and Northern Ireland: MR. DONALD ST. CLAIR GAINER; C.M.G., OB.E., His Envoy Exfraordinary and Minister Plenipotentiary in Caracas:

THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF VENEZUELA: DR. CARACCIOLO PARRA-PEREZ, Minister of Foreign Relations:

Who, having communicated to each other their full powers, found in good and due form, have agreed as follows:

Article 1

His Majesty The King renounces in favour of the United States of Venezuela all sovereign rights and title over the Island of Patos and transfers to the United States of Venezuela all sovereign rights and title oven the said Island which shall thereafter be considered as part of the territory of Venezuela.

Article 2

If at any time the Venezuelan Government think it necessary to install on the Island of Patos military or naval defence works, whether temporarily or permanently, they shall give timely notice of their intention to His Majesty's Government in the United Kingdom.

Article 3

All differences between the High Contracting Parties relating to the interpretation or- execution of this Treaty shall be settled by such peaceful means as are recognised in International Law.

Article 4

The present Treaty shall be ratified in conformity with the laws of the High Contracting Parties and the ratifications shall be exchanged in London.

The treaty shall come into force on the date upon which ratifications are exchanged.

In witness whereof the above named Plenipotentiaries have signed the present Treaty and have affixed thereto their seals.

Done in duplicate in the English and Spanish languages at Caracas the 26th day of February of 1942.
