2015 CHAPTER 20

26 March 2015

Commentary on Sections

Section 93: Reduction in regulation of providers of social work services

428.This section repeals section 4(10) of the Care Standards Act 2000 which provides for the 2000 Act to apply to a provider of social work services in the same way as it applies to an agency. The 2000 Act makes provision for the registration and inspection of agencies by Her Majesty’s Chief Inspector of Education, Children’s Services and Skills (“the Chief Inspector”). Where a local authority enters into arrangements with a provider of social work services in England, the Chief Inspector may inspect those arrangements as part of its inspection of the local authority under section 136 of the Education and Inspections Act 2006. Subsection (2) makes consequential provision.

429.The Care Standards Act 2000 forms part of the law of England and Wales, as does the section, but the section is relevant only to England. The section comes into force on a day to be appointed by the Secretary of State in a commencement order.
