European Union (Approval of Treaty Amendment Decision) Act 2012


20.Section 1(2) provides for the approval of the Treaty amendment Decision for the purposes of section 3 of the European Union Act 2011, under which primary legislation is required before a Minister may confirm the approval by the United Kingdom of a decision of the European Council under Article 48(6) TEU.

21.Section 1(3) provides, for the purposes of section 3(3) of the European Union Act 2011, that the Treaty amendment Decision does not fall within section 4 of that Act (cases where treaty or Article 48(6) decision attracts a referendum).

22.Section 2(1) makes provision for the territorial extent of the Act. The Act extends to the whole of the United Kingdom.

23.Section 2(2) makes provision about the Act’s coming into force. The Act came into force on the day of Royal Assent.
