Appointments to fill casual vacancies

Where, for any reason whatsoever, the office of a member of a flood defence committee becomes vacant before the end of his term of office, the vacancy—
a
shall, if the unexpired portion of the term of office of the vacating member is six months or more, be filled by the appointment of a new member; and
b
may be so filled in any other case.

A person appointed by virtue of sub-paragraph (1) above to fill a casual vacancy shall hold office for so long only as the former member would have held office.
