(1)It shall be the duty of every local weights and measures authority to enforce the provisions of section 214 of this Act within their area; and such an authority shall, whenever the [F1appropriate authority] so directs, make to [F2the appropriate authority] a report on the exercise of their functions under this section and section 214 of this Act in such form and containing such particulars as [F3the appropriate authority] may direct.

[F5(1B)“The appropriate authority” means—
(a)in the case of a weights and measures authority in England, the Secretary of State,
(b)in the case of a weights and measures authority in Wales, the Welsh Ministers, and
(c)in the case of a weights and measures authority in Scotland, the Scottish Ministers.]
