Appeal in cases of insanity E+W

12 Appeal against verdict of not guilty by reason of insanity. E+W

A person in whose case there is returned a verdict of not guilty by reason of insanity may appeal to the Court of Appeal [F1 against the verdict—

(a) with the leave of the Court of Appeal; or

(b) if[F2 , within 28 days from the date of the verdict,] the judge of the court of trial grants a certificate that the case is fit for appeal.]
