Policing of Airports (Belfast City) Order 2003

Whereas the Secretary of State has consulted the manager of Belfast City Airport, the Northern Ireland Policing Board and the Chief Constable of the Police Service of Northern Ireland in accordance with section 25(2) of the Aviation Security Act 1982(1) about this Order;

And whereas the Secretary of State considers that the policing of Belfast City Airport should, in the interests of the preservation of the peace and the prevention of crime, be undertaken by members of the Police Service of Northern Ireland or the Police Service of Northern Ireland Reserve;

And whereas a draft of this Order has been approved by resolution of each House of Parliament:

Now, therefore, the Secretary of State, in exercise of the powers conferred on him by section 25(1) of the Aviation Security Act 1982, hereby makes the following Order:

1.  This Order may be cited as the Policing of Airports (Belfast City) Order 2003 and shall come into force on the day after the day on which it is made.

2.  Belfast City Airport is hereby designated for the purposes of Part 3 of the Aviation Security Act 1982 (Policing of Airports).

Explanatory Note

(This note is not part of the Order)

This Order designates Belfast City Airport for the purposes of Part 3 of the Aviation Security Act 1982. The effect of this designation is that the policing of the airport will become the responsibility of the Police Service of Northern Ireland and the Police Service of Northern Ireland Reserve.
