Diocese in Europe Measure 2013

A Measure passed by the General Synod of the Church of England to make further provision for the Diocese in Europe.

1Power for Church Commissioners and Archbishops’ Council to make financial provision for Diocese in Europe

(1)The Church Commissioners (“the Commissioners”) may, from time to time, pay, out of their general fund, such sums as they think fit for the purpose of the development of the mission of the Diocese in Europe (“the Diocese”).

(2)Sections 2(3) and 8 of the National Institutions Measure 1998 (No. 1) shall have effect as if the purpose mentioned in subsection (1) of this section were a purpose for which the balance in the Commissioners’ general fund was available immediately before the coming into force of those sections.

2Amendment of Article 8 of Constitution of the General Synod

(1)The Diocese is a diocese for the purposes of Article 8(1) of the Constitution of the General Synod set out in Schedule 2 to the Synodical Government Measure 1969 (No. 2).

(2)The following provisions are repealed—

(a)the words “or, in the case of the Diocese in Europe, of the bishop’s council and standing committee of that diocese” in Article 8(1) of the Constitution; and

(b)section 3 of the Diocese in Europe Measure 1980 (No. 2).

3Short title and commencement

(1)This Measure may be cited as the Diocese in Europe Measure 2013.

(2)This Measure shall come into force on such day as the Archbishops of Canterbury and York may jointly appoint and different days may be appointed for different provisions or for different purposes.
