LOCAL GOVERNMENT

These Regulations are made in accordance with section 50 of the Local Government (Scotland) Act 1973 (“the 1973 Act”), section 18 of the Local Government and Housing Act 1989 (“the 1989 Act”), and sections 11 and 16 of the Local Governance (Scotland) Act 2004 (“the 2004 Act”). They make provision for the payment by local authorities to their members of certain types of allowance and reimbursement of expenditure incurred on approved duties of such members, from and after the date of the next ordinary election that is held after 2nd May 2007.

The Scottish Ministers, in exercise of the powers conferred by section 50 of the Local Government (Scotland) Act 19731, section 18 of the Local Government and Housing Act 19892, sections 11 and 16 of the Local Governance (Scotland) Act 20043, and of all other powers enabling them in that behalf, after consideration of the information, advice and recommendations given to them by the Scottish Local Authorities Remuneration Committee in accordance with the requirements of section 11(4) of the Local Governance (Scotland) Act 2004, make the following Regulations:
