The Discontinuance of Legalised Police Cells (Ayr) Rules 2002

Coming into force

The Scottish Ministers, in exercise of the powers conferred by sections 14 and 39 of the Prisons (Scotland) Act 19891 and of all other powers enabling them in that behalf, and on the application of the Strathclyde Joint Police Board, hereby make the following Rules:

Citation and commencement1

These Rules may be cited as the Discontinuance of Legalised Police Cells (Ayr) Rules 2002 and shall come into force on 30th November 2002.

Revocation2

The Rule made by the Secretary of State under the Prisons (Scotland) Acts, 1860 to 19262, dated 31st March 19273 appointing police cells in the Burgh of Ayr4 to be a legal prison for the detention of prisoners for a period not exceeding 14 days before, during or after trial is hereby revoked.

These Rules provide for the discontinuance, as at 30th November 2002, of the police cells in the possession of the Strathclyde Joint Police Board at Ayr as a place in which prisoners may be detained before, during or after trial for any period not exceeding 14 days.
