EXPLANATORY NOTE

(This note is not part of the Order)

This Order, which comes into force on 1 April 2008, designates particular offices of the land registry as the proper office for the receipt of specified descriptions of application under the Land Registration Act 2002. It replaces the Land Registration (Proper Office) Order 2003 and the Land Registration (Proper Office) (Amendment) Order 2005.

As a consequence of this Order, on and after 1 April 2008, the Land Registry’s Durham (Boldon), Harrow and York Offices will cease to be proper offices and there will be one Durham proper office, administered initially from the Southfield House and Boldon House buildings. The following table shows the effect of the changes—

Administrative area Former proper office New proper office
Brent Harrow Swansea
Camden Harrow Croydon
City of Westminster Harrow Croydon
East Riding of Yorkshire York Kingston Upon Hull
Harrow Harrow Swansea
Islington Harrow Stevenage
North Yorkshire York Durham
City and County of The City of London Harrow Stevenage
The Inner Temple and the Middle Temple Harrow Stevenage
York York Durham
Those administrative areas previously dealt with by the Durham (Boldon) or Durham (Southfield) proper offices Durham (Boldon) or Durham (Southfield) Durham

No impact assessment has been prepared on the basis that there will be no change in the costs incurred by business as a result of having to deliver certain applications to one land registry office rather than to another.
