INTERNATIONAL IMMUNITIES AND PRIVILEGES

The United Nations and International Court of Justice (Immunities and Privileges) (Amendment) Order 2002

  Coming into force 17th July 2002 

At the Court at Buckingham Palace the 16th day of July 2002

Present,

The Queen's Most Excellent Majesty in Council

Whereas a draft of this Order has been laid before Parliament in accordance with section 10 of the International Organisations Act 1968[1] ("the Act") and has been approved by a resolution of each House of Parliament:

     Now, therefore, Her Majesty, by virtue and in exercise of the powers conferred on Her by section 1 and section 10(3)[a] of the Act[2] or otherwise in Her Majesty vested, is pleased, by and with the advice of Her Privy Council, to order, and it is hereby ordered, as follows: - 

     1. This Order may be cited as the United Nations and International Court of Justice (Immunities and Privileges) (Amendment) Order 2002 and shall come into force on the day after the day on which it is made.

    
2. The United Nations and International Court of Justice (Immunities and Privileges) Order 1974[3] shall be varied by inserting after Article 8 the following new Article: - 

        " 8A. The United Nations shall have relief, under arrangements made by the Secretary of State, by way of refund of insurance premium tax and air passenger duty paid by the Organization in the exercise of its official activities.".

EXPLANATORY NOTE

(This note is not part of the Order)


This Order confers relief by way of refund from payment of insurance premium tax and air passenger duty on the United Nations, including the International Court of Justice. The Order enables the United Kingdom to give effect to an Agreement between Her Majesty's Government and the United Nations (Cm. 5475).
