CHIROPRACTORS

The Chiropractors Act 1994 (Commencement No. 6) Order 2002

  Made 31st January 2002 

The Secretary of State for Health, in exercise of the powers conferred upon him by section 44(3) of the Chiropractors Act 1994[1], hereby makes the following Order:

Citation and interpretation
     1.  - (1) This Order may be cited as the Chiropractors Act 1994 (Commencement No. 6) Order 2002.

    (2) In this Order - 

    "the Act" means the Chiropractors Act 1994 and any reference to a section or Schedule is to a section of or Schedule to that Act;

    "elected members" means those members of the Council referred to in Schedule 1, Part I, paragraph 1(a);

    "education members" means those members of the Council referred to in Schedule 1, Part I, paragraph 1(c ); and

    "member appointed by the Secretary of State" means the member referred to in Schedule 1, Part I, paragraph 1(d).

Appointed Day
    
2.  - (1) The day appointed for the coming into force of paragraphs 9, 10 and 14(5)(a) of Schedule 1, and of section 1(4) in so far as it relates to those paragraphs, is 1 February 2002.

    (2) The day appointed for the coming into force of paragraphs 3 (in so far as it relates to elected members) and 14(1), (3)(d) and (4) of Schedule 1, and of section 1(4) in so far as it relates to those paragraphs, is 16 June 2002.

    (3) The day appointed for the coming into force of paragraph 12 of Schedule 1, and section 1(4) in so far as it relates to that paragraph, is - 

    (4) The day appointed for the coming into force of paragraph 3 of Schedule 1 (in so far as it relates to the education members and the member appointed by the Secretary of State), and of section 1(4) in so far as it relates to that paragraph, is 16 June 2003.

    (5) The day appointed for the coming into force of section 1(4) and paragraph 3 of Schedule 1, in so far as they are not yet in force, is 16 June 2004.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

(This note is not part of the Order)


This Order brings into force, on 1 February 2002, rule-making powers in paragraphs 10 and 14 of Schedule 1 to the Chiropractors Act 1994, and on 16 June 2002, other provisions of the Act, which relate to the election of members to the General Chiropractic Council and of the Chairman. It brings into force, on later dates, coinciding with the end of transitional periods referred to in Part III of Schedule 1 to the Act, provisions on selection and tenure of certain other categories of Council member.
