The Secretary of State, in exercise of the powers conferred upon him by sections 45(4), 47 and 235(1) of the Local Government (Scotland) Act 1973[1] and sections 18 and 190(1) of the Local Government and Housing Act 1989[2] and of all other powers enabling him in that behalf, hereby makes the following Regulations: Citation and commencement 1. These Regulations may be cited as the Local Authorities Etc. (Allowances) (Scotland) Amendment Regulations 1997 and shall come into force on 1st August 1997. Amendment of Regulations 2. The Local Authorities Etc. (Allowances) (Scotland) Regulations 1995[3] shall be amended in accordance with regulations 3 to 5 below. 3. In regulation 20-
(b) in each of paragraphs (b) and (c), for "£44.60" there shall be substituted "£47.16".

In regulation 21, for "£26.20" there shall be substituted "£27.70".
(b) for "5,500" there shall be substituted "5,815"; and (c) for "5,000" there shall be substituted "5,286".
(This note is not part of the Regulations) These Regulations amend the Local Authorities Etc. (Allowances) (Scotland) Regulations 1995, which make provision as to the payment of allowances of various sorts to members of Scottish local authorities and joint boards. The amendments all concern increases in the maximum amounts payable by way of allowances.
