POLICE

The Police Cadets (Amendment) (No. 3) Regulations 1988

Made 12th December 1988
Laid before Parliament 19th December 1988
Coming into force 9th January 1989

    In exercise of the powers conferred upon me by section 35 of the Police Act 1964[1] , and after taking into consideration the recommendations made by the Police Negotiating Board for the United Kingdom and furnishing the said Board with a draft of the Regulations in accordance with section 2(1) of the Police Negotiating Board Act 1980[2] , I hereby make the following Regulations:
        1.    These Regulations may be cited as the Police Cadets (Amendment) (No. 3) Regulations 1988.
        2.    These Regulations shall come into force on 9th January 1989 and shall have effect for the purposes of regulation 3(a) and (b) as from 1st July 1988.
        3.    The Police Cadets Regulations 1979[3] shall be amended as follows:
       (a) in regulation 13(1) (a) for the words "1st July 1987" there shall be substituted the words "1st July 1988" and for the words "31st August 1987" there shall be substituted the words "31st August 1988" ;
       (b) for the Table in Schedule 2 (scales of pay) there shall be substituted the following Table—

        Table
        Age London Provinces
        Part I—Pay from 1st July 1988 to 31st August 1988
        Under 17 years £3,849 a year £3,195 a year
        17 years £4,041 a year £3,387 a year
        18 years or over £4,425 a year £3,771 a year
        Part II— Pay from 1st September 1988
        Under 17 years £4,038 a year £3,384 a year
        17 years £4,242 a year £3,588 a year
        18 years or over £4,650 a year £3,996 a year.
       (c) for paragraph 2 of Schedule 3 (charge for board and lodging) there shall be substituted the following paragraph—
              "2.     The annual rate of charge shall be—
              (a)  in the case of a police cadet attached to the Metropolitan Police force, £510;

              (b)  in any other case, £471." .

EXPLANATORY NOTE

(This note is not part of the Regulations)
    These Regulations amend the Police Cadets Regulations 1979. Regulation 3(a) and (b) increase the pay of cadets attached to the Metropolitan Police force from 1st July 1988 and again from 1st September 1988 and of cadets elsewhere from 1st September 1988 (retrospective effect is authorised by section 33(4), as applied by section 35(2), of the Police Act 1964). Regulation 3(c) increases charges payable by cadets for board and lodging provided by police authorities.
