EDUCATION, ENGLAND AND WALES

The Education Support Grants (Amendment) Regulations 1988

Coming into force 12th August 1988

    In exercise of the powers conferred on the Secretary of State by sections 1(3)(b) and (7) and 3(4) of the Education (Grants and Awards) Act 1984[1] and after consulting, in accordance with section 3(5) of that Act, such bodies representing local education authorities as appear to them to be appropriate, the Secretary of State for Education and Science as respects England and the Secretary of State for Wales as respects Wales, hereby make the following Regulations:—
        1.    These Regulations may be cited as the Education Support Grants (Amendment) Regulations 1988 and shall come into force on 12th August 1988.
        2.    For regulation 4 of the Education Support Grants Regulations 1984[2] there shall be substituted the following regulation—
            "4.—(1)   Grants paid after 12th August 1988 in respect of any expenditure which is approved as provided in regulation 3 shall, except as provided in paragraph (2), be payable at the rate of 70 per cent. of the expenditure so approved.

            (2)   Such grants in respect of any expenditure which is approved as provided in regulation 3 in respect of item 4(a) in the Schedule hereto and which is incurred on or after 1st April 1988 shall be payable at the rate of 50 per cent." .

EXPLANATORY NOTE

(This note is not part of the Regulations)
    These Regulations amend regulation 4 of the Education Support Grant Regulations 1984 so as to provide that for all expenditure incurred before 1st April 1988 grant shall be payable at the rate of 70 per cent. Expenditure incurred on or after that date in respect of item 4(a) of the Schedule (pilot projects to provide records of achievement for pupils in secondary schools or students at further education establishments) is to be payable at the rate of 50 per cent. Before this amendment that rate applied to such expenditure whenever it was incurred.
