The Department of Health(1) in exercise of the powers conferred by Articles 42, 106(b) and 107(6) of the Health and Personal Social Services (Northern Ireland) Order 1972(2), in conjunction with the Department of Finance(3), makes the following Regulations:

Citation, commencement and interpretationN.I.

1.—(1) These Regulations may be cited as the Provision of Health Services to Persons Not Ordinarily Resident (Amendment) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2023 and shall come into operation on 1st January 2024.

(2) In these Regulations, “the principal Regulations” means the Provision of Health Services to Persons Not Ordinarily Resident Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2015(4).

Amendment of Schedule 2N.I.

2.  In Schedule 2 (Countries or territories in respect of which the United Kingdom Government has entered into a reciprocal agreement) to the principal Regulations—

(a)after “Australia” insert “Bailiwick of Guernsey”;

(b)after “Gibraltar” insert “Iceland”; and

(c)after “Kosovo” insert “Liechtenstein”.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

(This note is not part of the Regulations)

These Regulations amend the Provision of Health Services to Persons Not Ordinarily Resident Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2015 (“the principal Regulations”) which make available, to visitors in Northern Ireland, certain health services under the Health and Personal Social Services (Northern Ireland) Order 1972 (S.I. 1972/1265 (N.I. 14)), at a charge determined by the Department of Health.

Regulation 1 contains citation, commencement and interpretation provisions.

Regulation 2 amends Schedule 2 to the principal Regulations to add Bailiwick of Guernsey, Iceland and Liechtenstein to the list of countries and territories with which the UK Government has entered into reciprocal agreements for the provision of health care.
