The Department of Justice, in exercise of the powers conferred by section 116(1) of the Judicature (Northern Ireland) Act 1978(1) and now vested in it(2), makes the following Order with the concurrence of the Department of Finance(3).
The Department has, in accordance with section 116(1) of that Act, consulted with the Lady Chief Justice.
Citation and commencement N.I.
1. This Order may be cited as the Magistrates’ Courts Fees (Amendment) Order (Northern Ireland) 2023 and shall come into operation on 1st November 2023.

EXPLANATORY NOTE
(This note is not part of the Order)
This Order amends the Magistrates’ Courts Fees Order (Northern Ireland) 1996 (S.R. 1996 No. 102) to increase the fees payable in respect of proceedings in the Magistrates’ Court over a two year period (9% increase effective from 1st November 2023, with a further 9% increase effective from 1st October 2024). It also amends the 1996 Order to introduce some new fees and make other amendments in consequence of amendments to the Licensing (Northern Ireland) Order 1996 (S.I. 1996 No. 3158) (N.I. 22)) and the Registration of Clubs (Northern Ireland) Order 1996 (S.I. 1996 No. 3159) (N.I. 23)) made by the Licensing and Registraton of Clubs (Amendment) Order (Northern Ireland) 2021 (c.7).
