The Department of Justice makes the following Regulations in exercise of the powers conferred by sections 1(1) and (2)(g) and 3(1), (2), (3) and (5) of the Public Service Pensions Act (Northern Ireland) 2014(1) and by Articles 14 and 15 of the Superannuation (Northern Ireland) Order 1972(2).

In accordance with section 21 of that Act, the Department has consulted the representatives of such persons as appear to it to be likely to be affected by these Regulations.

In accordance with section 3(5) of that Act, the Department of Finance has consented to the making of these Regulations (3).

Citation, commencement and effect

1.—(1) These Regulations may be cited as the Police Pensions (Additional Voluntary Contributions) (Amendment) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2020.

(2) These Regulations shall come into operation on 10th January 2020, but Regulation 2(2) has effect from 1st January 2020(4).

Amendment of the Royal Ulster Constabulary Pensions (Additional Voluntary Contributions) Regulations 1993

2.—(1) The Royal Ulster Constabulary Pensions (Additional Voluntary Contributions) Regulations 1993(5) are amended in accordance with paragraph (2).

(2) In Regulation 2 (interpretation in paragraph (2), in the entry for “approved additional voluntary contributions provided” after “the Standard Life Assurance Company” insert “or utmost Life and Pensions Limited”.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

(This note is not part of the Regulations)

These Regulations amend The Royal Ulster Constabulary Pensions (Additional Voluntary Contributions) Regulations 1993 (“1993 Regulations”).

Regulation 2 is amended to add “Utmost Life and Pensions Limited” to the list of “approved additional voluntary contributions providers” specified in the 1993 Regulations.

These Regulations have effect in accordance with Regulation 1. Retrospective effect is permitted by section 3(3)(b) of the Public Service Pensions Act (NI) 2014 and Articles 14 and 15 of the Superannuation (Northern Ireland ) Order 1972.
