The Department of Health, Social Services and Public Safety, in exercise of the powers conferred by Article 10(1), (3), (4) and (5) of the Fire Services (Northern Ireland) Order 1984(1), and now vested in it(2) and with the approval of the Department of Finance and Personnel in accordance with Article 10(1) of that Order makes the following Order:
1. This Order may be cited as the New Firefighters’ Pension Scheme (Amendment) Order (Northern Ireland) 2014 and shall come into operation on 1st April 2014.
2. The Annex to the New Firefighters’ Pension Scheme Order (Northern Ireland) 2007(3) (in which the New Firefighters’ Pension Scheme (Northern Ireland) is set out) is amended in accordance with Article 3.
3. For the table in paragraph 5 of Schedule A1 (pension contributions) substitute—
“Pensionable pay | Contribution rate from 1st April 2014 |

Up to and including £15,000 | 8.5 % of pensionable pay |
More than £15,000 and up to and including £21,000 | 9.4 % of pensionable pay |
More than £21,000 and up to and including £30,000 | 10.4 % of pensionable pay |
More than £30,000 and up to and including £40,000 | 10.9 % of pensionable pay |
More than £40,000 and up to and including £50,000 | 11.2 % of pensionable pay |
More than £50,000 and up to and including £60,000 | 11.3 % of pensionable pay |
More than £60,000 and up to and including £100,000 | 11.7 % of pensionable pay |
More than £100,000 and up to and including £120,000 | 12.1 % of pensionable pay |
More than £120,000 | 12.5 % of pensionable pay” |
4. In the New Firefighters’ Pension Scheme (Amendment) Order (Northern Ireland) 2013, Article 4 is revoked.

This Order further amends the New Firefighters’ Pension Scheme Order (Northern Ireland) 2007.
Article 3 amends the Scheme to provide a different rate for pension contributions payable by members of the Scheme which increase according to the amount of pensionable pay which the member receives. The contribution rates are specified in the Table. The contribution rate for members whose pensionable pay is £15,000 or less remains unchanged.
Article 4 revokes Article 4 of the New Firefighters’ Scheme (Amendment) Order (Northern Ireland) 2013.
S.I. 1984/1821 (N.I. 11) Article 10(5) was amended by S.I. 1998/1549 (N.I.11) Article 4. Article 10 was continued by S.I. 2006/1254 (N.I.9) Article 60(1) and (2).
