The Department of Finance and Personnel in exercise of the powers conferred on it by sections 139(2) and 159(1) of the Civil Partnership Act 2004(1) hereby makes the following Regulations.

Citation and commencement

1.  These Regulations may be cited as the Civil Partnership (Amendment) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2014 and shall come into operation on 2 March 2015.

Amendments to the Civil Partnership Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2005

2.—(1) The Civil Partnership Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2005(2) shall be amended as follows.

(2) In Regulation 3(2) for “14 days” (in each place where it occurs), substitute “28 days”.

(3) In Regulation 19(b) for “14 days”, substitute “28 days”.

(4) In Schedule 1 for “14 days”, substitute “28 days”.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

(This note is not part of the Regulations)

These Regulations amend the Civil Partnership Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2005 (S.R. 2005 No. 482) to increase the time limit for service of the civil partnership notice on the registrar from at least 14 days before the date of the intended civil partnership to at least 28 days before the date of the intended civil partnership. An amendment is also made to the time limit for payment of fees in respect of attendance of the registrar.
