The Attorney General’s Human Rights Guidance (Northern Ireland Prison Service – Conditions of Imprisonment) Order (Northern Ireland) 2014

The Attorney General, in exercise of the powers conferred by section 8(3)(c) of that Act, makes the following Order:

Citation, commencement and interpretation

2.—(1) This Order may be cited as the Attorney General’s Human Rights Guidance (Northern Ireland Prison Service – Conditions of Imprisonment) Order (Northern Ireland) 2014 and shall come into operation on 9th June 2014.

(2) The Interpretation Act (Northern Ireland) 1954 shall apply to this Order as it applies to an Act of the Assembly(4).

Coming into operation of the guidance

3.  The guidance on international human rights standards in respect of the Department of Justice (functions exercised by the Northern Ireland Prison Service in respect of conditions of imprisonment) shall come into operation on the day on which this Order comes into operation.

This Order brings into operation guidance by the Attorney General for Northern Ireland, pursuant to section 8 of the Justice (Northern Ireland) Act 2004, which was laid before the Assembly on 21 March 2014.

‘The Northern Ireland Assembly’ substituted for ‘each house of Parliament’ by paragraph 81(2) of Schedule 14 to the Northern Ireland Act 1998 (Devolution of Policing and Functions) Order 2010 (S.I. 2010/976).
