The Firefighters’ Pension Scheme (Amendment) Order (Northern Ireland) 2013

The Department of Health, Social Services and Public Safety, in exercise of the powers conferred by Article 10(1), (3), (4) and (5) of the Fire Services (Northern Ireland) Order 1984 (1), and now vested in it(2) and with the approval of the Department of Finance and Personnel in accordance with Article 10(1) of that Order makes the following Order:
Citation and commencement
1. This Order may be cited as the Firefighters’ Pension Scheme (Amendment) Order (Northern Ireland) 2013 and shall come into operation on 1st April 2013.
Amendment of the Firefighters’ Pension Scheme Order (Northern Ireland) 2007
2. The Annex to the Firefighters’ Pension Scheme Order (Northern Ireland) 2007 (3) (in which the Firefighters’ Pension Scheme (Northern Ireland) is set out), shall be amended in accordance with article 3.
3. In Schedule 7 for the table in paragraph 3 of Part A1 (pension contributions) substitute—
“Pensionable pay | Contribution rate from 1 st April 2013 |

| Up to and including £15,000 | 11.0 % of pensionable pay |
| More than £15,000 and up to and including £21,000 | 11.9 % of pensionable pay |
| More than £21,000 and up to and including £30,000 | 12.9 % of pensionable pay |
| More than £30,000 and up to and including £40,000 | 13.2 % of pensionable pay |
| More than £40,000 and up to and including £50,000 | 13.5 % of pensionable pay |
| More than £50,000 and up to and including £60,000 | 13.7 % of pensionable pay |
| More than £60,000 and up to and including £100,000 | 14.1 % of pensionable pay |
| More than £100,000 and up to and including £120,000 | 14.5 % of pensionable pay |
| More than £120,000 | 15.0 % of pensionable pay” |

EXPLANATORY NOTE
(This note is not part of the Order)
This Order further amends the Firefighters’ Pension Scheme Order (Northern Ireland) 2007.
The amendment is to provide a different rate for pension contributions payable by members of the Firefighters’ Pension Scheme which increase according to the amount of pensionable pay which the member receives. The contribution rates are specified in the Table.
In addition, a new band of pensionable pay has been created so that those firefighters who earn more than £15,000 and up to and including £21,000 will pay a lower rate than those earning more than £21,000 and up to and including £30,000.
S.I. 1984/1821 (N.I. 11) Article 10(5) was amended by S.I. 1998/1549 (N.I.11) Article 4. Article 10 was continued by S.I.2006/1254 (N.I.9) Article 60(1) and (2)
