Coming into operation in accordance with Article 1
The Department of Finance and Personnel for Northern Ireland makes this Order in exercise of the powers conferred by 6 (1)(b) and (2) of the Statistics and Registration Service Act 2007(1).
In accordance with section 6 (3) of that Act the Department of Finance and Personnel for Northern Ireland has consulted the Statistics Board(2).
1. This Order may be cited as the Official Statistics Order (Northern Ireland) 2012 and shall come into operation on 1st April 2012.
2. The Interpretation Act (Northern Ireland) 1954(3) shall apply to this Order as it applies to an Act of the Northern Ireland Assembly.
3. To the extent that they are not otherwise official statistics by virtue of section 6 (1)(a) of the Statistics and Registration Service Act 2007, the wholly Northern Ireland devolved statistics(4) produced, or to be produced, by the persons listed in the Schedule to this Order are specified as official statistics for the purposes of section 6 (1)(b) of that Act.

Section 6 (1)(a) of the Statistics and Registration Service Act 2007 (“the Act”) provides that statistics produced by the Statistics Board, a government department, the Scottish Administration, a Welsh ministerial authority, a Northern Ireland department, or any other person acting on behalf of the Crown are official statistics. This order is made under section 6 (1)(b) and (2) of the Act, which allows orders to be made to specify other persons as producers of official statistics. This order designates the statistics produced, or to be produced, by the persons listed in the Schedule as official statistics. This order applies to devolved Northern Ireland statistics as defined in section 66 of the Act.
A regulatory impact assessment has not been produced for this statutory rule as no impact on the private or voluntary sectors is foreseen.
The Statistics Board is also known as the UK Statistics Authority.
“Northern Ireland devolved statistics” is defined in section 66 of the 2007 Statistics and Registration Act.
