The Department of the Environment makes the following Regulations in exercise of the powers conferred on it by Articles 55(1) and (2) and 110(2) of the Road Traffic (Northern Ireland) Order 1995(1):

Citation and commencement

1.  These Regulations may be cited as the Motor Vehicles (Construction and Use) (Amendment No. 3) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2011 and shall come into operation on 21st October 2011.

Amendment to the Motor Vehicles (Construction and Use) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 1999

2.  For regulation 44(5)(g) of the Motor Vehicles (Construction and Use) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 1999(2) substitute—

(g)used as a search and rescue vehicle on the authority of the Chief Constable on search and rescue operations;.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

(This note is not part of the Regulations)

These Regulations further amend the Motor Vehicles (Construction and Use) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 1999 which govern the construction, equipment, maintenance and use of motor vehicles.

Regulation 44 (audible warning instruments) is amended to permit the fitting of a bell, gong, siren or two-tone horn to a motor vehicle which is used for search and rescue operations.
