The Domestic Energy Efficiency Grants (Amendment) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2008

The Department for Social Development (1) makes the following regulations in exercise of the powers conferred by Article 17 (1), (2), (3) and (4) of the Social Security (Northern Ireland) Order 1990 (2) and now vested in it (3).

The Department of Finance and Personnel has consented to the making of these Regulations in accordance with Article 17(8) of that Order.

Citation and commencement

1.  These regulations may be cited as the Domestic Energy Efficiency Grants (Amendment) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2008 and shall come into operation on 1st April 2008.

Amendments

2.  The Domestic Energy Efficiency Grants Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2002 (4) are amended in accordance with regulations 3 and 4.

3.  In regulation 5(1)—

(a)at the end of sub-paragraph (d) for “ , or” substitute “ ; ” ; and

(b)at the end of sub-paragraph (e) for “.” substitute “; or” and add the following—

(f)to provide water heating systems that use energy from renewable sources, including solar panels.

4.  In regulation 6—

(a)in paragraph (1), for the figure “£750” substitute “£850”; and

(b)in paragraph (2), for the figure “£3,700” substitute “£4,300”.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

(This note is not part of the Order)

The Domestic Energy Efficiency Grants Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2002 (“the 2002 Regulations”) enable the Department for Social Development to make or arrange for the making of grant for the improvement of energy efficiency in dwellings occupied by persons on low incomes with children, elderly persons on low incomes and persons in receipt of benefit relating to ill health or disability.

These Regulations amend the 2002 Regulations by adding water heating systems that use energy from renewable sources such as solar panels to the list of purposes for which Warm Homes grant may be approved. They also increase the limit of the Warm Homes grant to £850 and the limit of the Warm Homes Plus grant to £4,300.
