Shrimp Fishing Nets (Amendment) Order (Northern Ireland) 2007

Coming into operation

The Department of Agriculture And Rural Development makes the following Order in exercise of the powers conferred by sections 3(1) and 15(3) of the Sea Fish (Conservation) Act 19671 and now vested in it2.

Citation and commencement1

This Order may be cited as the Shrimp Fishing Nets (Amendment) Order (Northern Ireland) 2007 and shall come into operation on 31st January 2008.

Amendment of the Shrimp Fishing Nets Order (Northern Ireland) 20052

The Shrimp Fishing Nets Order (Northern Ireland) 20053 shall be amended as follows—

In Article 3 (Prohibition on fishing for shrimps without a separator trawl or sorting grid)–

  • for paragraph (3)(d) substitute—

    d

    where sea fish have been caught, the total catch retained on board should comprise of no more than 5% of live weight of common shrimps (Crangon spp), Aesop shrimps (Pandalus montagui) or a combination of the two.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

(This note is not part of the Order)

This Order amends the Shrimp Fishing Nets Order (Northern Ireland) 2005 which regulates the carriage and use of any fishing nets with mesh size between 16 and 31 millimetres, measured in accordance with Commission Regulation (EEC) No 2108/1984 of 23rd July 1984.

Article 3 paragraph (d) is amended to comply with Article 25 paragraph 3 of EC Regulation 850/98 which restricts the quantities of common shrimp and aesop shrimp retained on board a fishing vessel to no more than 5% of the live weight of marine organisms on board.
