Teachers' (Eligibility) (Amendment) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2006

The Department of Education, in exercise of the powers conferred on it by Articles 70(1) and (2)(1) and 134(1)(2) of the Education and Libraries (Northern Ireland) Order 1986(3) and of every other power enabling it in that behalf, hereby makes the following Regulations:

Citation and commencement

1.  These Regulations may be cited as the Teachers' (Eligibility) (Amendment) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2006 and shall come into operation on 10th November 2006.

Amendment to the Teachers' (Eligibility) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 1997

2.  The Teachers' (Eligibility) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 1997(4) shall be amended as follows—

(a)in Regulation 3; in the definition of “eligible to teach” the words, “regulation 6 (Age requirements) and” shall be omitted.

(b)in regulation 6 (Age Requirements) shall be revoked.

Explanatory Note

(This note is not part of the Regulations.)

These Regulations amend the Teachers' (Eligibility) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 1997 so as to remove the minimum and maximum age at which a person is eligible to teach in a grant aided school or as a peripatetic teacher.
