REGISTRATION OF BIRTHS, DEATHS AND MARRIAGES

3rd November 2003
The Department of Finance and Personnel, in exercise of the powers conferred on it by Article 1(2) of the Marriage (Northern Ireland) Order 2003(1) and of all other powers enabling it in that behalf, hereby makes the following Order:
1. This Order may be cited as the Marriage (2003 Order) (Commencement) Order (Northern Ireland) 2003.
2. The Marriage (Northern Ireland) Order 2003 shall come into operation –
(a)for the purposes of Articles 3(3)(b), 19(1)(a), 35(3), 36(1)(b) and (3) and 37 on 3rd November 2003; and
(b)for all other purposes on 1st January 2004.

(This note is not part of the Order.)
This Order brings into operation on 3rd November 2003 certain provisions of the Marriage (Northern Ireland) Order 2003 necessary for prescribing fees and for all other purposes the remaining provisions are brought in on 1st January 2004. The Order makes provision in respect of the formalities for marriage and the solemnisation and registration of marriage.
