The Department of Health, Social Services and Public Safety, in exercise of the powers conferred on it by Article 1(3) of the Health and Personal Social Services (Quality, Improvement and Regulation) (Northern Ireland) Order 2003(1), and of all other powers enabling it in that behalf, hereby makes the following Order:

Citation

1.  This Order may be cited as the Health and Personal Social Services (Quality, Improvement and Regulation) (2003 Order) (Commencement No. 1) Order (Northern Ireland) 2003.

Appointed day

2.  25th April 2003 is the appointed day for the coming into operation of the following provisions of the Health and Personal Social Services (Quality, Improvement and Regulation) (Northern Ireland) Order 2003 –

(a)Article 34 (Duty of quality);

(b)Article 46 (Rules regarding courses for persons who are or wish to become social workers); and

(c)Article 47 (Arrangements for provision of pharmaceutical services by pharmacists).

Explanatory Note

(This note is not part of the Order.)

This Order brings into operation on 25th April 2003 Articles 34, 46 and 47 of the Health and Personal Social Services (Quality, Improvement and Regulation) (Northern Ireland) Order 2003.

Article 34 provides for a duty of quality to apply to all Health and Social Services Boards and Trusts.

Article 46 amends section 10 of the Health and Personal Social Services Act (Northern Ireland) 2001 to extend the rule making power conferred on the Northern Ireland Social Care Council regarding courses for persons who are or who wish to become social workers.

Article 47 amends Article 63 of the Health and Personal Social Services (Northern Ireland) Order 1972 to extend pharmaceutical services to include drugs and medicines etc. ordered by a pharmacist
