Livestock and Meat Commission (Maximum Levy) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2003

Coming into operation

27th February 2003

The Department of Agriculture and Rural Development(1) in exercise of the powers conferred on it by section 4(7) of the Livestock Marketing Commission Act (Northern Ireland) 1967(2) and of every other power enabling it in that behalf hereby makes the following Regulations:–

Citation and commencement

1.  These Regulations may be cited as the Livestock and Meat Commission (Maximum Levy) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2003 and shall come into operation on 27th February 2003.

Increase in Maximum Levy

2.  The sums specified in sub-section (1) of section 4 of the Livestock Marketing Commission Act (Northern Ireland) 1967 shall be varied as follows:–

(a)the sum of 10p (for each sheep) shall be increased to £1·00; and

(b)the sum of one pound (for each bovine animal) shall be increased to £6·00.

Revocation

3.  The Livestock Marketing Commission (Maximum Levy) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 1976(3) are hereby revoked.

Explanatory Note

(This note is not part of the Regulations.)

These Regulations increase the maximum levy on livestock slaughtered in (or sent out of) Northern Ireland as permitted under the Livestock Marketing Commission Act (Northern Ireland) 1967, from 10p to £1·00 for sheep and from £1 to £6·00 for bovine animals.
