The Department of the Environment, in exercise of the powers conferred on it by Articles 13(1), 19C(1) and 218(1) of the Road Traffic (Northern Ireland) Order 1981(1) and of every other power enabling it in that behalf, and in accordance with Article 19C(3) of that Order with the approval of the Department of Finance and Personnel(2), hereby makes the following Regulations:
1. These Regulations may be cited as the Motor Vehicles (Driving Licences) (Fees) (Amendment) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2001 and shall come into operation on 23rd July 2001.
2. In paragraph 18 of Schedule 2 to the Motor Vehicles (Driving Licences) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 1996(3) after the words “Offenders Order” there shall be added “, or Article 37A of the Child Support (Northern Ireland) Order 1991(4).”.

The Child Support, Pensions and Social Security Act (Northern Ireland) 2000 inserted a new Article 37A into the Child Support (Northern Ireland) Order 1991 whereby a court may order a person to be disqualified from driving on the grounds of non-payment of child support maintenance.
These Regulations amend Schedule 2 (licence fees) to the Motor Vehicles (Driving Licences) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 1996 so as to extend the provision enabling the Department to charge a fee for a licence granted upon the expiry of a period of disqualification ordered by a court to include such a disqualification.
