Citation and commencement

1.  These Regulations may be cited as the Health and Safety at Work Order (Application to Environmentally Hazardous Substances) (Amendment) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2000 and shall come into operation on 24th April 2000.

Interpretation

2.  The Interpretation Act (Northern Ireland) 1954(1) shall apply to these Regulations as it applies to an Act of the Northern Ireland Assembly.

Amendment of the Health and Safety at Work Order (Application to Environmentally Hazardous Substances) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 1996

3.—(1) The Health and Safety at Work Order (Application to Environmentally Hazardous Substances) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 1996(2) shall be amended in accordance with paragraphs (2) and (3).

(2) The word “and” at the end of heads (ii) and (iii) of regulation 2(2)(a) shall be omitted.

(3) The following heads shall be inserted at the end of regulation 2(2)(a):

(iv)Council Directive 96/35/EC(3) on the appointment and vocational qualification of safety advisers for the transport of dangerous goods by road, rail and inland waterway;

(v)Commission Directive 96/86/EC(4) adapting to technical progress Council Directive 94/55/EC(5) on the approximation of the laws of the Member States with regard to the transport of dangerous goods by road;

(vi)Commission Directive 96/87/EC(6) adapting to technical progress Council Directive 96/49/EC(7) on the approximation of the laws of the Member States with regard to the transport of dangerous goods by rail;

(vii)Commission Directive 99/47/EC(8) adapting for the second time to technical progress Council Directive 94/55/EC on the approximation of the laws of the Member States with regard to the transport of dangerous goods by road; and

(viii)Commission Directive 99/48/EC(9) adapting for the second time to technical progress Council Directive 96/49/EC on the approximation of the laws of the Member States with regard to the transport of dangerous goods by rail; and.
