General Medical Services (Amendment) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2000

The Department of Health, Social Services and Public Safety(1), in exercise of the powers conferred on it by Articles 56, 106(b) and 107(6) of the Health and Personal Social Services (Northern Ireland) Order 1972(2) and of all other powers enabling it in that behalf, and in conjunction with the Department of Finance and Personnel and after consultation with such organisations as appear to the Department to be representative of the medical profession, as required by Article 56(5) of that Order, hereby makes the following Regulations:

Citation, commencement and interpretation

1.—(1) These Regulations may be cited as the General Medical Services (Amendment) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2000 and shall come into operation on 1st August 2000.

(2) In these Regulations “the principal Regulations” means the General Medical Services Regulations (Northern Ireland) 1997(3).

Amendment of the principal Regulations

2.  In Schedule 10 to the principal Regulations (drugs and other substances not to be prescribed for supply under pharmaceutical services), the following entry shall be inserted in such place in the alphabetical order of the entries as is appropriate—

Explanatory Note

(This note is not part of the Regulations.)

These Regulations further amend the General Medical Services Regulations (“the principal Regulations”) which regulate the terms on which doctors provide general medical services under the Health and Personal Social Services (Northern Ireland) Order 1972.

Regulation 2 inserts the drug Propecia (Finasteride 1 mg) in Schedule 10 to the principal Regulations, which contains a list of drugs and other substances which may not be prescribed for supply under pharmaceutical services.
