Razor Shells (Prohibition of Fishing) (Amendment) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2000

The Department of Agriculture and Rural Development(1), in exercise of the powers conferred on it by sections 19(1) and 124(1) and (2) of the Fisheries Act (Northern Ireland) 1966(2) and of every other power enabling it in that behalf, hereby makes the following Regulations:

Citation and commencement

1.  These Regulations may be cited as the Razor Shells (Prohibition of Fishing) (Amendment) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2000 and shall come into operation on 16th June 2000.

Amendment of the Razor Shells (Prohibition of Fishing) Regulations 1998

2.  The Razor Shells (Prohibition of Fishing) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 1998 shall be amended as follows:

In Regulation 2 (Interpretation) in the definition of “razor shells” for “Solenidae” there shall be substituted “Solenacea”.

Explanatory Note

(This note is not part of the Regulations.)

These Regulations amend the Razor Shells (Prohibition of Fishing) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 1998 which prohibit, subject to certain exemptions, any boat from fishing for razor shells by means of any type of dredge or suction dredge or retaining on board razor shells caught by any type of dredge or suction dredge, in waters within Dundrum Bay.

Regulation 2 amends the family name for razor shells from Solenidae to Solenacea.
