1. These Regulations may be cited as the Employer’s Liability (Compulsory Insurance) Exemption Regulations (Northern Ireland) 1998 and shall come into operation on 20th April 1998.
2. In these Regulations—
“motor vehicle” has the meaning assigned to it by Article 3(1) of the Road Traffic (Northern Ireland) Order 1995(1);
“the Order” means the Employer’s Liability (Defective Equipment and Compulsory Insurance) (Northern Ireland) Order 1972;
“road” has the meaning assigned to it by Article 2(2) of the Road Traffic (Northern Ireland) Order 1995; and
“subsidiary” in relation to any body corporate has the meaning assigned to it by Article 4 of the Companies (Northern Ireland) Order 1986(2).
3. The employers listed in the Schedule are hereby exempted from the requirements of Part III of the Order to insure and maintain insurance.
4. The Employer’s Liability (Compulsory Insurance) Exemption Regulations (Northern Ireland) 1975(3), the Employer’s Liability (Compulsory Insurance) Exemption (Amendment) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 1993(4) and the Employer’s Liability (Compulsory Insurance) Exemption (Amendment) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 1997(5) are hereby revoked.
