The Department of Economic Development, in exercise of the powers conferred on it by section 60(6) of the Disability Discrimination Act 1995(1) and of every other power enabling it in that behalf, hereby makes the following Order:
1.—(1) This Order may be cited as the Disability Discrimination (Abolition of District Advisory Committees) Order (Northern Ireland) 1998 and shall come into operation on 30th July 1998.
(2) The Interpretation Act (Northern Ireland) 1954(2) shall apply to this Order as it applies to a Measure of the Northern Ireland Assembly.
2. Section 17 of, and Schedule 2 to, the Disabled Persons (Employment) Act (Northern Ireland) 1945(3) (district advisory committees) are hereby repealed.

This Order repeals section 17 of, and Schedule 2 to, the Disabled Persons (Employment) Act (Northern Ireland) 1945 (“the 1945 Act”), as amended by Article 17 of, and the Schedule to, the Employment (Miscellaneous Provisions) (Northern Ireland) Order 1981 (S.I. 1981/839 (N.I. 20)).
In their amended form, section 17 of, and Schedule 2 to, the 1945 Act make provision for the establishment and procedure of district advisory committees (lately known as “Committees for the Employment of Disabled People”).
