18. In the exercise of any powers conferred on the Company for the purpose of preventing an obstruction or danger to navigation, to dispose of any vessel sunk, stranded or abandoned, or for preventing or reducing the discharge of oil, or the risk of discharge of oil, the Company shall, for the purpose of section 156 of the Merchant Shipping Act 1995(1), be regarded as a person performing salvage operations with the agreement of the owner.
