Lands Tribunal (Salaries) Order (Northern Ireland) 1998

To be laid before Parliament under paragraph 3(3) of Schedule 1 to the Northern Ireland Act 1974

Coming into operation

27th May 1998

In exercise of the powers conferred by section 2(5) of the Lands Tribunal and Compensation Act (Northern Ireland) 1964(1) and section 18 of the Administrative and Financial Provisions Act (Northern Ireland) 1962(2) and now vested in me(3) and of all other powers enabling me in that behalf, I hereby make the following Order:—

Title and commencement

1.  This Order may be cited as the Lands Tribunal (Salaries) Order (Northern Ireland) 1998 and shall come into operation on 27th May 1998.

Revocation

2.  The Lands Tribunal (Salaries) Order (Northern Ireland) 1997(4) is hereby revoked.

Increases in salaries

3.—(1) Subject to paragraph (2), the annual salary payable to the President of the Lands Tribunal shall be increased as follows—

(a)from £92,378 to £94,819 from 1st April 1998;

(b)from £94,819 to £96,214 from 1st December 1998.

(2) The annual salary payable to a President of the Lands Tribunal appointed after this Order comes into operation shall be £86,601 and shall be increased to £88,077 from 1st December 1998.

(3) The annual salary payable to any other member of the Lands Tribunal shall be increased as follows—

(a)from £80,430 to £83,523 from 1st April 1998;

(b)from £83,523 to £84,752 from 1st December 1998.

Explanatory Note

(This note is not part of the Order.)

This Order provides for changes in the annual salaries payable to members of the Lands Tribunal for Northern Ireland following recommendations made in the Report of the Review Body on Senior Salaries in 1998 (HMSO CM 3837).

It increases, with retrospective effect from 1st April 1998 under Section 18 of the Administrative and Financial Provisions Act (Northern Ireland) 1962, the annual salary of the President of the Lands Tribunal and all other members of the Tribunal.

It also increases with effect from 1st December 1998 the annual salary of the President of the Lands Tribunal and all other members of the Tribunal.

It changes, with effect from the coming into operation of the Order, the salary payable to a President appointed after the Order comes into operation.

Article 2 revokes the Lands Tribunal (Salaries) Order (Northern Ireland) 1997.
