Citation

1.  This Order may be cited as the Education Reform (1989 Order) (Commencement No. 9) Order (Northern Ireland) 1998.

Commencement

2.  Article 6(1) and (2) of and Schedule 2 to the Education Reform (Northern Ireland) Order 1989(1) in so far as they relate to the compulsory contributory subject, Irish (in Irish speaking schools only), shall come into operation in Irish speaking schools—

(a)on 31st July 1998 in relation to pupils in the third key stage and the first year of the fourth key stage; and

(b)on 31st July 1999 in relation to pupils in the second year of the fourth key stage.

3.  Articles 6(3) and 136 shall come into operation on 19th March 1998.
