1. This Order may be cited as the Zoonoses Order (Northern Ireland) 1997 and shall come into operation on 24th December 1997.
2. In this Order—
“animals” means bovine animals, sheep, goats, deer and all other ruminant animals; and
“the 1981 Order” means the Diseases of Animals (Northern Ireland) Order 1981.
3.—(1) Bovine spongiform encephalopathy, being a disease which is carried in animals and constitutes in the opinion of the Department, a risk to human health, is hereby designated for the purposes of Article 7 of the 1981 Order.
(2) The provisions of the 1981 Order listed in the Schedule to this Order shall have effect for the purpose of preventing the spread of the disease designated under paragraph (1) to or among humans as they have effect for the purpose of preventing the spread of that disease among animals.
