LAGANSIDE DEVELOPMENT

The Laganside Development (Alteration of Designated Area) Order (Northern Ireland) 1996

The Department of the Environment, in exercise of the powers conferred on it by Article 3(2) and (5) of the Laganside Development (Northern Ireland) Order 1989(1), and of every other power enabling it in that behalf, hereby makes the following order:

Citation and commencement

1.  This order may be cited as the Laganside Development (Alteration of Designated Area) Order (Northern Ireland) 1996 and shall come into operation on 1st February 1997.

Alteration of the designated area

2.—(1) The area of land designated by Article 2 of the Laganside Development Designation Order (Northern Ireland) 1989(2) is hereby altered so as to include the 5 areas shown on the deposited map.

(2) The boundaries of the 5 areas included by virtue of paragraph (1) are shown on the deposited map by red lines and extend to the outside of those lines.

(3) In this Article “the deposited map” means the map prepared in duplicate marked “Map referred to in the Laganside Development (Alteration of Designated Area) Order (Northern Ireland) 1996” and signed by an Assistant Secretary in the Department of the Environment, one duplicate of which is available for inspection at the office of the Department known as the Belfast Development Office, Clarence Court, 10-18 Adelaide Street, Belfast, and the other duplicate of which is available for inspection at the office of the Laganside Corporation, 15 Clarendon Road, Belfast.

Explanatory Note

(This note is not part of the Order.)

The Laganside Development Designation Order (Northern Ireland) 1989 designated an area of about 350 acres (141.5 hectares) lying within the City of Belfast for the purpose of its regeneration by the Laganside Corporation which is established under Article 4(1) of the Laganside Development (Northern Ireland) Order 1989. A further 40 acres (16 hectares) approximately was designated under the Laganside Development (Alteration of Designated Area) Order (Northern Ireland) 1995.

This order alters the designated area by adding 5 separate areas totalling approximately 45.5 hectares contiguous to the existing area.
